Shiplap Backsplash DIY

It was really important to me that I love my kitchen. I'm in here a lot of my day and you can see it from most of the first floor of my house, so I had found myself picking it apart and finding all the things I didn't love about it. A couple of things that I always came back to were the backsplash (or lack thereof) and the dark granite countertop. I installed some peel and stick subway tile not long after moving in, and it was still up almost 4 years later. But my style has changed, and the subway tile combined with the dark countertop was really making the space feel darker and unwelcoming.

When planning out this project, it would've been easy for me to choose a tile and countertop I love, but my biggest thing during every project is staying on budget. The budget for this project was SMALL. I just finished redoing all of the headers on my main floor and that used a good amount of my summer project budget, soI went into my research knowing that I had limited funds. I still had big ideas for the space, so I got to brainstorming and came across a picture that I fell in love with and knew I wanted to try in my home. Plus after pricing it out, I could get it done for under $200! I already had supplies like my brad nailer and nails, but the boards alone costed me about $120.

Below I'll walk you through the steps I took and will list out the supplies I used, so make sure you bookmark!

Supplies needed:

Shiplap Boards
Brad Nailer
Brad Nails
Caulk
Waterproof Sealant
Foam Rollers
Paintbrush
Jigsaw
Miter Saw
Behr Vintage Pewter cabinet paint

The hardest part of this project was cutting out the outlet holes, so all in all I'd say it's a fairly beginner-friendly DIY! This change completely transformed this space, I'm so truly happy with how it turned out. I took a change and decided not to do anything with my countertops because I had a feeling once I made the change to the shiplap that I would feel differently towards the dark granite - and I was right! The lightened cabinets feels like a good contrast with the dark granite, plus I decided to add in this gold faucet from Amazon that tied it all together.

I would absolutely recommend this shiplap project to someone looking to update their space! So affordable, so easy to do. Let me know what you think and if you would try it yourself!
